The later rectangular mirror plate within a ribbon-tied laurel trailing frame and twisted ribbon border, surmounted by a pierced scrolled and foliate cresting centred by an acanthus and laurel urn with basket finial issuing floral garlands, the sides further embellished with scrolled foliage and flowerheads, and on splayed acanthus scrolled legs embellished with a foliate patera, regilt

Lot Essay

Related mirrors with delicate pierced scrolled foliate cresting are in the Palazzo Pitti, Florence, for instance one dated 1790-1800, a related rectangular mirror illustrated in E. Colle, ed., I Mobili di Palazzo Pitti, Il primo periodo Lorenese 1737-1799, Florence, 1992, p. 157, no. 91, with the same typical scrolled foliate legs, and combining neoclassical and naturalistic motifs.
