Along with the Daleks, the Cybermen are amongst the most memorable creatures from Dr Who. They were first created by writer Kit Pedler and intended to represent creatures of humanoid form who had arrived from the planet Mondas, Earth's mirror image, to drain the Earth's energy. They appeared in thirteen stories and the costumes were constantly evolving, particularly in the earlier episodes from 1966-69. According to the vendor, this helmet was made for the Tomb Of The Cybermen series of four episodes, transmitted in September 1967 and worn by Cyberman Tony Harwood. However, it appears that the Cyberman costumes were restyled after Tomb Of The Cybermen - the black edging around the eyes and mouth was removed and in their place, small holes were added to the eyes and below the mouth, suggesting perhaps human tear ducts. This suggests that this helmet could in fact date from a later story, The Wheel In Space, transmitted in 1968.
