Bernazzano was the leading landscape specialist of his period in Milan, and collaborated with Cesare da Sesto, who was his executor. The two painters' most ambitious co-production was the Baptism from the Palazzo della Zecca, Milan, now in a private collection. The attribution of the present panel to the artist was advanced by the late Federico Zeri.
