A ROMAN GOLD AND GARNET DRESS ORNAMENT

Composed of rigid sheet gold with beaded gold wire border and horizontal dividing wire surmounted by central tear-shaped garnet inlay surrounded by filigree and sheet gold foliage, adapted for wear as a brooch with modern pin and clasp on reverse, 2¼ x 1.1/8 in. (5.7 x 2.7 cm.); and a Hellenistic lion-headed hoop earring, the tapering twisted hoop terminating in a filigree tongued collar supporting a cornelian bead and detailed lion's head, circa 2nd-1st Century B.C., ¾ in.
