The embroidered inscription is worked with the first two refrain couplets (of twelve) of an elegy to Immam Hussain (relating to his martyrdom in Kerbala) by the Poet Kamal ud Din Mohtashem Kashani (1485-1576), court poet to Shah Tahmasp.
