Lot Essay

A note affixed to the first folio says the album belonged to Lieut-Gen A Fytche and that a couple of the paintings were reproduced in his book. A plan of his estate is included in the album.
Major General Albert Fytche (1820-92) joined the Bengal army in 1839 and was Chief Commissioner of Burma 1867-71 during which time the treaty was negociated with the King of Burma. In 1878 he wrote Burma Past and Present, referred to above.
