FIRST EDITIONS, FIRST ISSUE of the second volume, illustrations by Harry Furniss, PRESENTATION COPY of Sylvie and Bruno Concluded, inscribed by Dodgson in black ink on the half-title: "Angela Barnes, with the Author's love. Dec. 27, 1893." The recipient was one of three daughters of Reginald Barnes, who had been a fellow undergraduate at Christ Church, Oxford. Dodgson was quite friendly with the family. Two of the daughters became actresses; the third, Angela, became a violinist. She visited the author while doing a concert in Oxford in February 1892; he in turn attended her first London concert, in June 1892, with seven guests, mostly members of his family. See Letters, ed.
