Lot Essay

From a series of twelve prints of beauties, all now known. The catalogue note for the example in the collection of the Rijksmuseum (Catalogue of the Collection of Japanese Prints Part II, 1979, no. 82) postulates that the twelve may have been released as a set introduced by a title page naming the publisher as none of the prints bears a publisher's mark.
