AN IVORY NETSUKE
EDO PERIOD (LATE 18TH CENTURY), KYOTO SCHOOL, SIGNED YOSHINAGA

Carved in the figure of Shoki, the Demon Queller, holding in one hand a struggling oni and in the other his long sword, clothed in long Chinese-style robes engraved with chrysanthemum scroll, the sword scabbard hung from a rope cord carved on the back, details etched and stained dark, signed in an oval reserve at the hem of the cloak- 3 1/2 in. (9 cm.) high
