cover 3c Dull Red, vertical one-third "possibly used" as 1c (11c var.), horizontal pair with attached one-third "bisect", large margins to slightly in, well-tied by "New-York Sep 8" c.d.s. and bold "Due 6" h.s. (pencil deleted and re-rated "due 5") on buff cover to Greenfield, Mass., 1854 ms. docketing; a challenging cover with several theories regarding both the stamps and markings present, some feel it is simply due to careless scissors seperation of the stamps (not likely), others feel the "bisect" represented a 1c carrier fee (possible), more than likely it was a quadruple rate cover (12c) which at a quick glance appears to be short paid by 6c (thus the "Due 6c" h.s.) and re-rated after the attached bisect was noticed (credited as 1c) which reduced the actual postage due to 5c, some cover edge wear and cover faults, otherwise fine, since the P.F. has issued a certificate in the past stating that "it is not a bisect usage", it is must be offered strictly "as is", but it is likely it is a genuine bisect usage photo
