Lot Essay

Professor Miklos Boskovits has kindly identified this panel (from a photograph) as the work of the same Florentine, early fifteenth century hand as an Annunciation in the church of San Michele at Carmignano, near Florence, where it is inset into an early seventeenth century canvas attributed to Naldini (see C. Cerretelli, M. Ciatti and M.G. Trenti, Le chiese di Carmignano e Poggio a Caiano, 1994, p. 164). Professor Boskovits' reconstruction of this artist's oeuvre has yet to be published.
