Lot Essay

Further exploring the limits of representation in drawings, Schendel creates during the 70s a series of drawings that investigate the power of fragmented text. Numerous drawings made with letra set on paper or other supports such as plexiglass appeared in her body of work. The present one belongs to this series. In it, following the Duchampian tradition, Schendel plays with the signifiers in the composition rendering a hidden meaning that can only be revealed through a carefull reading of the arbitrary placement of letters and their phonetics.
