Lot Essay

Moreau le Jeune and Simonet engraved a slightly differing composition by Baudouin of the same subject in 1765 which was originally executed for the Marquis de Marigny on the occasion of his wedding, M.-C. Marie-Catherine Sahut also mentions a version of the subject on the art market.
Baudouin, who married Boucher's daughter, specialized in small bodycolors and miniatures of galant subjects, although he was criticized by Diderot for trying to imitate Greuze. 8-12, quotation p. 218).
