The censer is cast on one side with a pair of confronted phoenix standing in profile on a lotus canopy flanked on either side by a qilin, the reverse similarly decorated with a pair of geese, with two elephant-tusk shaped handles on either side of the body, all on a punched-ring ground and the slightly domed hardwood cover carved with ruyi clouds, surmounted by an agate finial
