The dish with deep, rounded sides rising from a wedge-shape foot, the interior well painted with a woman seated at a marble-topped table, holding a brush in one hand, her other hand placed atop a length of paper, with a female attendant standing behind her and a young boy standing on a box in order to lean on the end of the table

A famille rose jar painted with a similar scene of a woman seated at a scholar's table is illustrated in the Catalogue, Old Oriental Ceramics, Tokyo National Museum, 1953, no. 326.
