Squadron Officer Shirley Johnston was born in January 1940 and commissioned as a Section Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force Nursing Service (R.A.A.F.N.S.) in July 1957. She served in Malaya with the Base Squadron, Butterworth between December 1958 and February 1960 and was advanced to Flight Officer in January 1963. Johnston, whose final promotion was to Squadron Officer in January 1971, left the Service in the late 1970s and died in July 1980.
