Black leather pouch with silver flap (HM London 1892), the edges engraved with characteristic (?)palm-leaf decoration, bearing a fine gilt device of HCL in foliate script, superimposed on crossed Lances below a Tudor Crown, suspension-loops HM en suite with flap (tab defective and lacking stud)

Lot Essay

The hallmark indicates that this pouch was produced very shortly after the conversion of the Hyderabad Contingent regiments from Cavalry to Lancers. Following their renumbering in the 1903 reorganisation, the three Hyderabad regiments devised their own individual pouch ornaments.
