This headdress was introduced in 1962 to provide RTR officers with a cap suitable for wear with formal orders of uniform, and is said to have been designed by the wife of the then Colonel Commandant. With the effective disappearance of No.1 Dress, this type of beret became obsolete in the 1970s.
