Private Joseph Johnson Flynn, aged 19 years, of Normanby, Eston, Yorkshire was killed in action on 27.1.1916 at Vermelles during a heavy strafing: 'Shrapnel, H.E., Whiz-Bangs, Aerial Torpedoes, Trench Mortars, Rifle Grenades and everything else was used'. He is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
