Major Gerald Edgar Oliver Fortescue Lambert, a relative of the Earl of Cavan, was educated at Eton College and entered the Army in 1905 as a Lieutenant in the 19th Hussars. Promoted to Captain in 1912, he served with the West African Frontier Force, and during the Great War with the 1st Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers. Advanced to Acting Major on 18.3.1916, he died of wounds at St. Eloi, Belgium, just 10 days later.
