Grahamstown Volunteer (Horse) Artillery:
Raised in 1876, the unit was in action against the Galekas, Gaikas and other tribes in 1877-78, a detachment and a 6-pounder gun being present at the action at Umzintzarin on 2.12.1877. Only 28 Medals were issued to the unit, just five of these with the clasp '1877-8-9'.
