Sold with a quantity of original documentation, including the recipient's Officers' Record of Service Book (Army Book 439), and several photographs, among them Great War subject matter.

The Reverend John William Akam was born in November 1878, completed his education at Christ College, Cambridge and was ordained on the eve of the Great War. Appointed Curate of Cockermouth, he attended the Cadet School at Lee between May and July 1917 and was commissioned into the Army Service Corps, seeing service with the 35th Auxiliary Motor Transport Company in France in the following year. Released from the Service in January 1919, Akam was latterly Vicar of Beckwithshaw.
