Lot Essay

Thomas Jules, Baron de Vincotte (1850-1925)
Born in Bogerhout, Belgium. Studied under J.J. Jaquet, attending classes at the Brussels Academy and the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris. He later held posts as professor of sculpture at Antwerp. He sculpted many portrait busts of classical, historical and contemporary celebrities and Belgian Royalty. Exhibiting widely he won a third class medal at Paris (1874), and showed at the Royal Academy in 1881.
