John Taylor started business in 1826, and his son entered the firm about 1860. In 1852, they were appointed cabinet-makers and upholsterers in ordinary to Her Majesty the Queen at Edinburgh, and were favorably mentioned at the International Exhibition of 1862, ranking alongside Whytoch & Reid as Edinburgh's leading cabinet-makers. They traded from Gardener's Crescent from circa 1857 to 1948, finally closing in 1968.
