Lot Essay

These candelabra are based on a pair of girandoles de cheminée made in 1745/46 for Joseph-Antoine Crozat de Tugny (1696-1751), Président au Parlement de Paris. They were commissioned for the grand salon of his hôtel in the Place Vendôme which he inherited in 1743 from his father, the celebrated financier and mécèna Antoine Crozat, called le riche.

They were subsequently sold from the Givenchy Collection, Christie's Monaco, 4 December 1993, lot 32.
