Chteau Latour--Vintage 1970
Pauillac, 1er cru class. Chteau-bottled
U.S. Slip labels. Levels base of neck or better
Tasting note: When first tasted in November 1996 I was stunned by how youthful the wine was at over 25 years old. Black in colour, tight, ungiving and closed on the nose with a restrained whiff of cedar and a hint of tar. Dry and austere on the palate. Very firm in structure with rigid foursquare tannins. On the face of it not a flattering wine but beneath lurks a concentration of dense Cabernet fruit which comes forward after an hour in the glass. Certainly a classic Latour and one which will happily keep and improve over the next 25 years. (T.Hudson)
