Alexandre-Simon Pataille (1781-1857) was the first president of the provincial court in Aix and a deputy to the National Assembly from Boucher-du-Rhône. As a magistrate he was known for his ability to argue with eloquence and irrefutable logic. Pataille appears in two lithographs, one of which is a portrait bust (Delteil no. 151) the artist probably drew from the original clay sculpture.
