Of rounded rectangular breakfront outline, the moulded cornice above a plain frieze with drawers to each end and above four folding panelled doors each inlaid with Greek-key borders centred by a foliate oval, the corners set with palmettes, enclosing two short fall-front drawers, above an open recess and three long fall-front drawers, flanked on each side by a long panelled door enclosing a hanging cubpaord, losses to mouldings and brass inlay, refitted in the early 20th Century with fall-front mahogany drawers and separate chest section, one side door locked

Lot Essay

In the l890s the Wardour Street firm of Edwards and Roberts claimed that their French 'Empire' style was 'much in request', and their label features on a related chair with palm-flowered boulle inlay in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, (F. Collard, Regency Furniture, Woodbridge, l987, p. 246.)
