This form of Louis Seize chair with Grecian scrolled back relates to a Drawing Room chair pattern adopted by Gillow in the mid-1790s (L. Boynton, Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, Royston, 1995, pl. 30); while its arm-supports scrolled in the form of Ceres's cornucopiae or horns-of-plenty relate to five pairs of armchairs sold by a descendant of John Lloyd Wynne of Coed Coch, Christie's London, 18 April 1996, lots 215-219.
