A SET OF FOUR DUTCH WALNUT AND MARQUETRY CHAIRS
1st half of the 18th Century
Each with pierced vase-shaped splat, inlaid with marquetry of birds, flowers and a vase, above a drop-in seat, two covered in wool needlework of a fox and two with floral wool needlework, above a foliate apron, on shell-carved cabriole legs and ball and claw feet, four legs spliced, the marquetry probably 19th Century, one seat covering inscribed in needlework 'U.WYNDHAM PETWOR 1985' (4)

Lot Essay

The splats on the present set of chairs, with their richly flowered frames display similar vases to those on a pair of chairs sold by the Lord Raglan in these Rooms, 28 May 1981, lot 99.
