A Victorian walnut and gilt metal mounted folding bookslide, late 19th century
The hinged sides pierced with stylised trefoils, central brass plate inscribed T.FORGE 93 Buchanan St. Glasgow, the ends with further brass plates inscribed BETJEMANN'S and PATENT 12725, on spreading ebonised wood base -- 20½in. (52cm.) wide, extended, 6¾in. (17.2cm.) high; a mahogany folding chess box and board with stained bone chess set; a lacquered glove box; an ebonised glove box; a brass mortar and pestle; and a cast iron weight modelled with a goblin's head; and a small bronze bust of Voltaire after Houdon
