Lot Essay

The three fruits depicted on this bowl are very auspicious. The peach and pomegrante are symbols of longevity and the lychee is symbolic of sons. See the similar bowl with Qianlong mark in the collection of the Lowe Art Museum, University of Miami, Florida, included in the exhibition, Birds, Beasts, Blossoms, and Bugs in East Asian Art, Lowe Art Museum, 13 September -10 November 1993, p. 51, no. 161, ill. p. 49.
