[before Inauguration Day, 20 January 1960]. 2 pages, small 4to, on a sheet of note-pad stationery headed "Washington, D.C." the sheet torn carelessly from the pad by Kennedy, with partial loss of two words at top edge of page 2.
A HANDWRITTEN INVITATION TO KENNEDY'S INAUGURATION
Jack Kennedy spent much of December and early January in Palm Beach, selecting his cabinet, metting with advisors and drafting his Inaugural Address. Here, in a hasty scrawl he extends an overseas acquaintance a personal invitation to the inaugural ceremonies: "...Is there any chance you could come over to the Inaugural which is on the 20th of January. If so, I will be glad to arrange for your transportation over and back. Perhaps you could [come] over a few days ahead, around the 13th or 14th. Let me know...."
