A Louis XVI-style ormolu-mounted carrara marble garniture

Comprising a lyre-shaped clock and a pair of seven-light candelabra: the clock with acanthus finial above a vine-festooned female mask, the enamelled dial inscribed Fd. Gervais/A Paris, with twin-train movement, flanked to each side by acanthus, on spreading laurel-cast base, shaped plinth and lion-paw feet; the candelabra each as a vase supported on triple lion-paw monopodiae with vine-festooned female masks between, the central spirally-fluted stem supporting acanthus-sheathed arms, each with laurel-cast drip-pan and urn-shaped nozzle, on triform spreading laurel-cast foot and foliate toupie feet

Lot Essay

Successors to the fondeurs Royer, the Parisian firm of Fernand Gervais had premises at 12, rue des Filles-du-Calvaire, showing their fine quality objects at many of the International Exhibitions of the 1880s and 90s.
