Of large proportions, the eared and concave cross banded rectangular top inlaid with a C-scroll cartouche cornered by similiar cartouches and with a molded overhanging edge above three conforming long drawers, flanked by spreading Solomonic columns with Composite capitals on plinths, above a stepped and spreading base with ebonized pad feet

Lot Essay

With its generous proportions, concave canted form and spiral-twist columns headed by parcel-gilt capitals, this commode is closely related to a very similar example from the Palazzo Valdina, in Corso Vittoria Emmanuele, Palermo, the residence of the Principi Papè of Valdina, Protonotari of the Kingdom of Sicily, sold Christie's Milan, 25 November 1999, lot 718.
