A George III japanned longcase clock, third quarter 18th century
The case decorated overall in gilt against a black ground, with glazed side panels to the breakarch hood, the breakarch trunk door decorated with chinoiserie figures and pagodas, on stepped cut-down plinth (case with various losses to mouldings and damages to decoration), the 12in. brass dial with painted rolling moon to the arch, urn and foliate spandrels to the chapter ring, the matted centre signed Robert Gymer Norwich on a plaque above the date aperture, cut steel hands and later seconds hand, the five pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement and strike on bell -- 80¼in. (204cm.) high
