Lot Essay
Charles Stewart (d. 1827) had premises at 115 St. Martin's Lane until 1820, when he moved to Regent Street. In 1810, he was granted his patent for 'improvements in the construction of dining and other tables' and a similar dining-table is illustrated in C. Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture, 1700-1840, Leeds, 1996, p. 441, fig. 884.
