A PAIR OF EXPORT CANDLE-HOLDERS MODELLED AS STANDING LADIES
qianlong (1736-1795)
With detachable heads, candle-nozzles and square bases, finely modelled holding a blue and white octagonal vase and a café-au-lait-glazed and gilt nozzle to their left and right, each enamelled wearing underglaze blue coats with iron-red and gilt decoration, over iron-red robes and long yellow pleated skirt with elaborate hems, the faces with fine features and slightly smiling expressions and their high looped hair held together with hair-pins, standing on low square bases with moulded floral decoration to the sides, minor restoration

Lot Essay

It is rare to find figures of this type complete with the detachable nozzles. An almost identical pair, without nozzles, from the Collection of Joseph and Laverne Schieszler, sold in our New York Rooms, 25 January 2000, lot 122.
