Lot Essay

The original figure finished in 1766, now in the Louvre, shown in a salon catalogue of 1767. A letter from Allegrain to Pierre regarding this sculpture is printed with further discussion on the piece in Lami Dictionnaire des Sculpteurs Paris 1910, volume 3, page 23.
