Of rectangular outline with raised cover and on bun feet, with engraved black foliate borders overall with monogram 'LEH' to the cover, the sandlewood lined interior with ivory covers to the divisions, lacking original fittings

Lot Essay

Vizagapatnam: The East India Company factory at Vizagapatnam was started in 1668 and was producing furniture to European designs, particularly English and Dutch, from the early eighteenth century. Placed midway between Madras and Calcutta on the east coast it was a well placed stopover for the 'East Indiamen' trading vessels.
