A French marquetry and ormolu mounted work table, 19th century
In the Louis XVI style, with projecting rounded corners, the hinged top with a diaper trellis design with foliate inlay, crossbanded with tulipwood within a foliate scroll border, enclosing a fitted interior with mirror to the reverse, the frieze with similar scroll inlay, on fluted tapering legs joined by curved and tablet stretcher terminating in ball sabots, the lock inscribed Tahan Fr De L'Empereur

Alphonse Tahan (fl.1830-80) was a maker of small items of furniture and cabinet maker to Napoleon III. His son Jean-Pierre continued his business.
