Lot Essay

Turner visited Switzerland in 1837 and for a second time in 1841, when he depicted the glassy surfaced Lake Geneva, as seen from above Lausanne.
Turner's watercolour is now in the Tate Gallery (for more information, see I. Warrell, Through Switzerland with Turner, London, 1995, p. 142.)
