Lot Essay

This is a commentary on Lum'at al-Dimashqiyah written by Muhammad b. Makki al-'Amili, (d. 782/1380), who is known as the First Martyr among Shi'a. The author of the present work was put to death by the Ottomans for his Shi'a views in 1559, and is regarded as the Second Martyr.
This complete and dated copy may be in the hand of the author, though it is perhaps more probable that this is a fair copy prepared for him. Another incomplete copy, dated Jumada II 956 (June-July 1549), bearing the author's autograph is in the Princeton University Library
