Of hinged bevelled tubular construction, the shank having a pair of stylised lion masks flanking the tubular hinge, both sides of the shank with a kufic inscription in reserve on a bitumen-filled engraved ground interrupted by diamond shaped panels and two turquoise inset bezels outlined with granulation, the domed shaped bezel having four claws holding gold pierced dome with central rosette flanked by two lions, both with light surface dirt, inset stones and beads possibly replaced, small repairs

The inscriptions with occasional errors, read: al-'izz w'al-iqbal w'al-d[awla] w'al-sa'a[da]

A related pair of bracelets is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Brosch, N,: Islamic Jewelry, Jerusalem, 1987, no.43; and Jenkins, M. and Keene, M.: Islamic Jewelry in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1982, no.25). The use of gold decoration on the bezel rather than inset stones can been seen on a ring in the Zucker Collection (Content, D. (ed.): Islamic Rings and Gems, the Benjamin Zucker Collection, London, 1987, no.14) and a similar pair of bracelets sold as lot 338 in the these rooms on 28th April 1998. Similar crouching felines either side of the bezel can be see in Spink catalogue Islamic Jewellery 1st November 1996, p.26, no.63.
