A SELJUK REPOUSSÉ GOLD PENDANT AMULET
NORTH EAST PERSIA, 12TH CENTURY
Of rectangular form with separable end and three conical elements terminating in suspension loops above, the sides with a continuous band of scrolling leafy vine terminating in trefoils within a strong kufic inscription border, each end with simple motifs, one possibly a replacement
1¼in. (3.4cm.) wide

Lot Essay

The inscription reads:
b'il-yumn w'al-baraka w'al-salama b'il-yumn w'al-baraka w'al-....al-.... (same)

A very similar pendant, but with koranic inscription and made of silver, is in the L.A.Mayer Memorial Institute for Islamic Art (Hasson, Rachel: Early Islamic Jewellery, Jerusalem, 1987, no.118, p.88).
