Of rectangular form, the centre with an overall design of stellar interlace enclosing floral star-shaped panels, a band of naskh inscription above and below, within borders of meandering flowering vine interlaced with arabesques, outer plain stripe, repaired break, slight loss at one side

Lot Essay

The inscriptions are a hadith: It is incumbent on all those present and those who are absent that they love 'Ali b. Abu Talib.

A very similar carved panel is in a private collection in America.
