The ivory field with boldly coloured flowering tendrils issuing from a lime-green cusped cruciform lozenge medallion with pendants containing similar motifs, the linked royal blue spandrels with similar flowering vine enclosed within a band of strapwork, in a blackcurrant-red border of meandering rosette vine between silvery grey floral meander stripes, multicoloured silk warps, excellent condition

Lot Essay

This powerful silk rug is one of the group that can, with some confidence, be attributed to Hajji Mulla Muhammad Hasan Mohtasham on the basis of its similarities to the one known silk rug signed by him (Bennett, Ian: 'The Myth of Mohtasham', Hali 35, July/August/September 1987, pp.44-49, esp. pl.p.1).
