Lot Essay

This example is an unusual variant within the group of Ushak Medallion Carpets because of the truncated design of its primary medallions. The more typical layout can be seen in lot 178. A very similar example with this design was sold in the Bernheimer Collection of Carpets in these rooms, 14 February 1996, lot 127. The present rug is not only in better condition than that; it also has a stronger border enclosing it.
