Lot Essay

Art by Sandro Symeoni.

Sergio Leone chose to use the American sounding pseudonym, Bob Robertson, as he thought it would make the film more marketable in America. The film launched the careers of Eastwood and Leone as well as the Spaghetti Western genre. Only the original Italian posters credit Bob Robertson as Director and do not depict the then unknown Eastwood.
