A PAIR OF SÈVRES BLEU NOUVEAU TWO-HANDLED VASES AND COVERS
CIRCA 1775, PUCE 2000 FOR VINCENT
Each oviform vase with gilt scroll handles moulded with acanthus and rising from the center of the body to curve onto the mouth of the vase, a tied ribbon suspending a foliate garland secured at each handle, the lion mask terminals suspending a similar swag to enclose a finely painted rounded lozenge-shaped cartouche of a shepherd surprising a shepherdess and a shepherdess with her two children reserved within a gilt border on the blue ground gilt with an oak branch, each back with a similar cartouche of flowers, the vase raised on four paw feet and a conforming waisted base (losses and restorations, drilled and formerly mounted as lamps and raised on a further circular polished white marble base)--13¼in.
